In fact if you’re a fan of walking or taking your dogs for a walk, with Hungerford surrounded by the North Wessex Downs AONB you’re in the ideal place for a hike. The AONB is located across the counties of Berkshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire and covers the following areas: Berkshire Downs, the North Hampshire Downs, the White Horse Hills, the Lambourn Downs, the Marlborough Downs, the Vale of Pewsey and Savernake Forest.
Another place worth checking out near Hungerford in Littlecote Roman Villa. It is a Roman winged corridor villa and associated religious complex at Littlecote Park. It has been archaeologically excavated under the direction of Bryan Walters, and is on display to the public.

Horse racing forms a major industry in the area, largely because of the good quality turf that comes with the chalk underlay and much of upland area is made over to gallops and other training areas. Several of the upland villages, especially Lambourn are home to major racing stables. Other villages such as Beckhampton and Kingsclere also have strong horse racing connections…. A great opportunity to combine a walk and see some of these thoroughbreds in action.
