Moving can be a stressful time for us all, to help you out, we have put together a list of moving mistakes that people make while moving in to their new home, and (most importantly), how to avoid them!
#1 Moving Company
It’s often very tempting to hire the first moving company that you find, especially when you have lots of other things to be thinking about, but try to set aside some time to really research different companies and find the best one.
Make a list of things that you want and need from your moving company. Speak to a few different companies and see which service best lines up with what you need. Another thing to check is that they have good customer reviews. Get these companies to do an inventory check, so you know the quote you are getting is legit, rather than just guess work.
#2 Forgetting to Label Boxes
Although this may seem like an obvious task, you should label all your moving boxes. This will not only help you to get organised when your moving day comes along, but also will mean you don’t have to open all your boxes just to find your toothbrush. It could also be worth writing a breakdown of the items in each box, so all you have to do is scan the label when looking for something.
With a little pre-planning, it’s easy to make your move a lot smoother. You could try things like buying colour coded pens for each room. You should also pack an “essentials box” for all the items that you will need for the first few days of your move.
#3 Choosing the wrong storage unit size
Choosing the wrong storage unit size is just another headache for you to worry about. You definitely don’t want to be turning up on your moving day and realise the unit you have booked is too small for the amount of stuff you have to store.
To avoid this potential problem, use a space calculator to give yourself a good idea of how much storage space you will need. At RedSpot, if you arrive at your unit and realise you have booked the wrong size, we will do our best to find you a different sized unit that fits your needs.
