The real benefits of drive-up self storage
6 reasons why drive-up self storage (single level) is better. Plus, how to know what storage is right for you.
The real benefits of single-level storage.
…And what that means for you.
Drive-up self storage has so a tonne of benefits over multi-storage, but they aren’t always obvious. We get asked all the time, so we’ve put together this handy list of the main reasons why single-level storage may be the right storage solution for you:
1. No more lugging your storage up and down lifts and corridors
Your standard indoor storage, we’re sure, does an alright job. But actually getting into your storage? That’s a different matter.
Let’s imagine your storage manager hands you your unit number – C31. Great, let’s head in to find it – and while we’re at it, we’ll take some of these boxes with us. Half an hour – and 6 corridors, 1 set of stairs and numerous tight corners later – you finally arrive at your unit (no doubt wondering if, after all that palaver, you can even be bothered to finish unloading). Oh, and there’s no spare trollies. Sound about right?
That’s where single-level, drive-up storage is different. Within minutes of being given your storage unit number (like driving right up to it), you can be at your unit, unload it and be ready to go. Easy as that.
2. Park right outside
It might sound obvious, but ‘drive-up’ storage means just that – you can drive right up to your unit. Great if you’re needing to move heavy loads, or simply if you don’t want the effort of repeated trips to and from an indoor storage unit.
3. Drive-up self storage - Easy anytime access
Now, we can’t speak for all other storage providers, but with drive-up storage, you’re generally not reliant on the opening times of the storage facility to access your unit, like you would be with indoor storage. Need access outside of working hours? No problem. Want to access your unit on a regular basis, as and when you want? Sorted.
Having an outdoor unit makes it easy to get in to your storage, so when you realise you’ve locked something away that you need urgently, you can pop along and get it, no worries.
4. No spare time? No problem
At RedSpot Self Storage, we’re always happy to see our customers, but if spare time (or the lack of it) is a big problem for you, then you’ll be pleased to know that the very concept of drive-up storage is about saving you the time (and effort) of moving stuff in and out of storage. Parking right outside your storage unit means less time you need to spend unloading, moving your stuff to your unit, then loading your stuff in and out of storage. A drive-up unit means you can cut the middle bit out and consequently, you have more time doing what you need to do.
5. Heavy loads breaking your back? Not with drive-up self storage
As much as we hate to think it, we’re not all as strong as Arnie, and even the most careful of us can end up with a dodgy back that puts us out for a while, after carrying a heavy piece of furniture. That’s what makes drive-up storage a great deal – you can park two feet from your unit, which means less of a chance of doing any kind of damage to yourself. Oh and if you do need any help then please ask – the lovely RedSpot team are always happy to help where we can!
6. Five simple steps to get the most out of drive-up self storage
A final one, but one that we think is pretty important. Drive-up storage is about as straightforward as it gets. You don’t need to be shown into a building and you won’t get lost down endless corridors. And you certainly won’t end up spending half a day lugging stuff to your unit. There are four simple steps to drive-up storage:
- Drive up right outside your unit
- Unlock your unit
- Unload your stuff into your unit
- Lock your unit back up
- Drive away, leaving your storage in safe hands
We’re pretty sure most indoor storage facilities can’t live up to this simple five-step routine, but if you’re still not quite sure, then keep reading to see which kind of storage if right for you.
Indoor vs. drive-up storage – what kind of storage is right for me?
- Do you want easy access to your storage unit?
- Do you want to spend less time moving in or out of your storage unit?
- Does the thought of lugging boxes any further than a few feet bother you?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then drive-up storage could be just the ticket. So, good luck on finding the storage space that’s right for you.
